The medium garnet-purple colored 2015 Maucaillou has a nose of cedar, plums and red currants with a waft of herbs. The medium-bodied palate is oaky, chewy and bitter.
Already upfront and charming with a complex bouquet of red fruits, underbrush, dusty earth and an almost peppery note, the 2015 Château Maucaillou is elegant and nicely textured on the palate, with terrific depth of fruit. Drink it over the coming 7-10 years.
More Merlot than Cabernet Sauvignon and just 1% Cabernet Franc. Mid cherry red. Marked cedary aroma and dry and chalky on the palate. But in the middle of those chalky tannins is some lovely dark fruit, giving richness and balance. Very good. (JH)

Owned by the négociant Dourthe, this Moulis property has 87 hectares of vines today (with 67 added by Philippe Dourthe since 1967). Managed and made by an expert team, the quality here is hardly surprising.
