The medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2015 La Croix de Gay has a meaty, vaguely plummy nose with earthy undertones and a savory edge. Full-bodied with a firm backbone of chewy tannins, it's got just enough freshness to lift the earthy/savory flavors, finishing long.

A ripe, opulent, textured, Merlot-dominated blend with plenty of new oak, but the structure and concentration to cope. The tannins are just a little firm on the finish perhaps, but should soften in barrel.
Dark and opulent with freshness as well. Lovely Merlot expression. Precise, tidy and long on the finish.
A dramatic, sweeping wine, the 2015 La Croix de Gay possesses notable depth and pure power. Broad tannins provide the backdrop for a huge core of fruit. Iron, smoke, tobacco and a host of savory/feral notes add myriad shades of nuance throughout. The 2015 is shaping up to be a terrific wine, but readers will have to be patient.

Chantal Lebreton-Reynaud is in charge of this 4.2-hectare estate, working with her three sons (Jean-Pascal, Olivier and Julien). The plots sit on gravel and sandier soils, in the hamlet of Pignon, in the north of Pomerol.
