Note di degustazione
(aged for two years in new French oak barriques ): Bright purple. Powerful, oak-accented blueberry, cherry liqueur, sandalwood and potpourri scents are complemented by suggestions of vanilla and smoky Indian spices. Smooth, sweet and broad on the palate, offering deeply concentrated dark fruit preserve, rose pastille and vanilla bean flavors; juicy acidity and a peppery nuance provide focus and lift. The clinging finish features a jolt of minerality and resonating floral and blue fruit notes.

The most expensive and exclusive in the lineup is the 2012 Petit Verdot, a rare varietal produced in a winery designed to work without pumps, fermented with natural yeast with malolactic and 18 months aging in new French barriques. Petit Verdot is not an easy grape, and it does not ripen properly every year, but it did in 2012. It does have the roasted, black fruit aromas, hints of graphite and peat, and black aromas commonly associated with the grape. The palate is full-bodied with glossy tannins, good volume and balancing acidity. It has stuffing, balance and acidity to improve in bottle. Six barrels produced wine to fill 1,500 bottles and a handful of magnums in June 2015.
The aromas of dark fruit, granite and stone are compelling. Full-bodied, very chewy and intense. Depth and power. Tight and structured. Petit verdot is serious from here. Better in 2016.
Blackcurrant jam, clove spice, sweet and creamy and satisfying. Authentically bold tannins – just as the variety should have. Rather fiery, but with a rustic charm that is warming and with plenty of concentration. (RH)
