(80% vendange entier ): Bright medium red. Considerably more closed on the nose than the Rue de Vergy, conveying an impression of medicinal reserve to its flavors of black cherry, menthol and licorice. This tightly wound village wine conveys an herbal coolness and call for patience. Here the stems dry the tannins a bit but this brooding wine is not hard.

(50% vendange entier ; includes five parcels of old vines from the north to the south of village; no pigeage for this wine): Very dark red with ruby tones. Aromas of blackberry, licorice and mint, plus a hint of underbrush. Suave and fine-grained, communicating attractive fruit sweetness. Less mineral than the Rue de Vergy as it's from deeper soil, but boasts a firm spine of building tannins, with an obvious stem influence.
The 2014 Morey St Denis Vieilles Vignes has a reserved nose despite rigorous coaxing and only after a couple of minutes does it reveal blackcurrant pastille and kirsch scents entwined with orange zest and dried apricot. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, quite Chambolle-like, and the 50% whole cluster is cunningly disguised on the structured but focused finish. This is a lovely wine.
