2013 Pinot Bianco Vorberg Riserva

A rich, unctuous wine, the 2013 Pinot Bianco Riserva Vorberg offers striking depth and nuance, with an extra kick of oiliness from the beautifully ripe fruit. Succulent peach and apricot notes open up first, followed by an expressive mélange of dried flowers, mint, herbs and candied lemon peel. The 2013 is rich, distinctive and capable of aging nicely for another decade, perhaps longer.

This is a magnificent achievement from Cantina Terlano. The 2013 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Riserva Vorberg is just at the beginning of what promises to be a very long aging evolution. The bouquet offers an impeccable and seamless sense of integration with pressed yellow rose that segues to candied almond, pine nut, stone fruit, preserved lemon and mountain herb. Subtle mineral notes also appear at the edges. The mouthfeel is pure and steady with long persistence, good structure and bright acidity. I am happily impressed with the entire line of new releases offered by Cantina Terlano. Two wines stand out. The first is the 2004 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Rarity that gives solid evidence for the excellent aging potential of this white grape. The 2013 Alto Adige Terlano I Grande Cuvée is just at the start of its evolution but offers great promise for its future aging.
