Punteggio 91-94/100 · Allen Meadows, Burghound, Apr 2016

As is usually the case the vibrant middle weight flavors are finer and more mineral-driven with a sleek muscularity if not the overall size and weight of the Suchots, all wrapped in a tightly focused, compact and linear though not especially austere finale. Here too I very much like the balance and overall sense of harmony and in the same fashion as the Suchots this should amply reward 10 to 15 years of bottle age.

The 2014 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Petits-Monts has a pixellated bouquet that displays more mineral tension than the Suchots at present. The palate is well balanced with tart red cherry and strawberry fruit, fine weight and impressive vigour on the finish. There is a bit of swagger and self-confidence about this Les Petits Monts...and I like that.

(aging in a new 500-liter barrel): Bright medium red. Knockout nose melds raspberry, rose petal and minty high tones. Very pure and intense but tightly wound, showing terrific viscosity of texture cut by penetrating minerality and accented by fresh herbs. I was reminded of a high-mountain tea. This very long, bracing wine left my salivary glands quivering.
