Punteggio 93+/100 · Da bere 2024-2033, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2017

Bright medium red. Perfumed scents of black raspberry and espresso are complicated by soil-driven smoke and crushed-rock notes. The richest and most tactile of these young 2014s but also with great finesse to the flavors of red berries, rose petal, saline minerality and pepper. The wine's tannins are serious and deep but not hard. This true-to-its- terroir beauty really saturates the palate under a wave of flavor.

Bright medium red. Richer and deeper on the nose than the more perfumed, floral Clos Vougeot, offering scents of blackberry and espresso complemented by sexy oak tones. Wonderfully rich and sweet but a touch youthfully monolithic following the Clos Vougeot; the fullest of these 2014s but still a medium-bodied wine. Best today on the very broad, vibrant finish, which features serious but well-distributed tannins and outstanding reverberating length.

The 2014 Richebourg Grand Cru, from 75- and 50-year-old vines, has a crisp and poised bouquet with blackberry and blueberry, wonderful mineralité here and great precision, with the oak neatly dovetailed into the fruit. The palate is precise and structured. There is a superb backbone here; this is very focused and a more masculine, linear Richebourg. There is a sense aristocracy here with great sustain on the finish. Give it a decade before broaching, as I suspect it will end up in the top of my banded score.
