Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2023-2034, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2017

Bright, deep red. Musky black cherry, dark raspberry, smoked meat, dried flowers and spices on the nose. Rich, supple and sweet, with captivating saline minerality giving punch to the concentrated berry and cherry flavors; serious mid-palate texture and presence here. The wine's sexy smoky sweetness is perfectly countered by integrated acidity. Finishes perfumed, classically dry and long, with firm, ripe, fine-grained tannins and exhilarating saline minerality. This very classy Nuits-Saint-Georges wine is still a bit reduced but not at all austere.

The 2014 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains has a beautifully poised bouquet with mineral-tinged redcurrant and cranberry scents, very delineated and very nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with cranberry and strawberry on the entry, just a touch of greenness here, but in a positive sense. There is something a little rustic and enigmatic about this Vaucrains, so it will be fascinating to revisit once in bottle. There is sophistication already present in this wine.

Medium red. Perfumed aromas of red berries and cinnamon. Sappy, saline and deep, communicating a strong impression of vivacity to its fruit and spice flavors; not a particularly black-fruit style of Vaucrains. The broad, palate-staining finish displays very fine-grained tannins and outstanding energy and lift. An elegant style of Vaucrains with a real light touch.

This is vibrant, boasting cherry and black currant notes, allied to a dense texture. Builds to a lingering aftertaste of dark fruit, mineral and spice. Shows terrific harmony and balance, though this needs a few years of cellaring to really sing. Mar 2017, www.winespectator.com, Drink: 2021-2040
