Bright red-ruby. Very ripe aromas of black cherry, currant and earth come across as expressive and clean following the difficult Mazis. Then creamy and pliant in the middle palate, conveying a sweetness to its fruit that was blocked by new oak during the wine's sojourn in barrel. Turns noticeably more taut on the back end, which gives clarity and grip to the very long finish without any loss of sweetness. The wine's substantial broad, dusty tannins are supported by mid-palate richness. Really lovely balance here.

(80% new oak; Mortet always picks this fruit early owing to its typical combination of millerandé and large grapes):Healthy deep red-ruby color. Oaky, very ripe aromas of redcurrant, smoke and spices lifted by a touch of violet. Sweet, ripe and fine-grained; a distinctly elegant style of Clos-Vougeot without any hardness. Still, with its strong component of spicy oak, I doubt I could identify the terroir . Finishes with firm, dusty tannins.
The 2014 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is matured in 80% new oak. It has a crisp, stony, introverted bouquet despite rigorous coaxing. The palate is broody at first but there is commendable concentration here. The tannin feel a little thicker than other crus in 2014, quite dense in the mouth, although I would have liked a little more delineation right on the finish. Let's see how it performs once in bottle.
