The 2014 Richebourg Grand Cru has an intense bouquet with iris and violets at first, perhaps quite Romanée Saint Vivant in style, backed up by black cherries, bergamot, sage and mineral scents. The palate is very smooth and refined, the acidity just about perfect, a gradual build of dark berry fruit laced with bay leaf and black tea before fanning out. There is clearly great length here, very harmonious and the sustain on the aftertaste is very impressive. Afford this 5-6 years in the cellar to really get the most from this Richebourg.
Transparent dark ruby. Heady and round and lovely texture. Really serious wine. Really sumptuous fruit. Such an exciting edge. (JR)
