Punteggio 91-93/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2016

(60% new oak; from 70-year-old vines): Healthy medium red. Deep, slightly reduced aromas of dark fruits and smoky minerality lifted by a violet topnote. Rich, creamy and deep, with the concentrated raspberry and smoky mineral flavors carrying through to a very fresh finish firmed by sound acidity and a saline element. Tactile, precise and very long on the aftertaste.

The 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Boudots comes from 1.2 hectares of almost 100-year-old vines and is being matured in 60% new oak. It has a deep, broody, well defined bouquet with macerated dark cherries and cassis aromas, the mineralité just below the surface. The palate is dense and structured for the vintage, plenty of black cherry and cassis fruit once again with a patina of new oak filling out the finish. It will need several years to really show what it can do -- be patient.

I always feel sorry for the Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Boudots – not easy to impress after the Les Petits Monts. That being said the 2014 edition of Boudots is actually giving the Petits Monts a run for the money. In the bouquet darker and more weighty fruit – notes of cherries, raspberries – hints of coffee and chocolate supported by a fine slightly eathy minerality. On the palate quite rich and weighty offering a more substantial impression of the delicate 2014 fruit. Very finely balanced, pure and refined for a Boudots … Nov 2015, www.winehog.org, Drink: 2024+

Once again a soft application of wood easily allows the spice and floral-scented nose of plum, black cherry and earth aromas to shine. There is a highly seductive texture to the muscular full-bodied flavors that enjoy both excellent volume and mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in a delicious, serious and complex if less refined and mineral-inflected finale. I very much like the richness and this is sneaky long. Jan 2016, www.burghound.com, Drink: 2021+
