Punteggio 92+/100 · Da bere 2023-2034, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2017

Bright, dark red. Wonderfully aromatic nose combines raspberry, menthol, dried rose and sexy soil notes. Silky and voluminous but with saline minerality contributing vibrancy, delineation and tautness to the middle palate. More soil than floral tones here. Not at all dry but the wine's tannins and acidity will need several years to resolve. Finishes salty and long.

(tasted from cuve ): Bright medium red. Musky, complex, soil-driven scents of raspberry, violet, rose petal, hawthorn, mint and underbrush. Wonderfully silky and perfumed in the mouth, displaying outstanding lift to the flavors of red raspberry, spices and flowers. The vibrant, rising finish shows an uncanny light touch and leaves behind a lingering scent of floral oils. Perrot-Minot wanted to preserve this wine's crunchy fruit character by bottling it early.

The 2014 Charmes Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is much more backward and laconic than the 2014 Griotte-Chambertin at this early stage. It is less fruit-driven but shows more stony/mineral aromas. The palate is smooth on the entry, quite precise with tart red cherries, fresh strawberry and a hint of vanilla pod. It starts to fan out on the mid-palate and then it clams back up towards the finish, suggesting that it deserves 4-5 years in bottle. Overall, it is very well crafted, quite cerebral Charmes-Chambertin from Christophe Perrot-Minot.
