2012 Carmignano Riserva

The 2012 Carmignano Riserva Piaggia is a gorgeous, understated wine. Sweet tobacco, cedar, herbs, licorice and dark red cherry notes meld together in a layered, exquisite Carmignano that emphasizes finesse over power. I especially admire the wine's nuance and delineation. Dark raspberry, blueberry, spice and licorice reappear on the super- expressive finish. Once again, the flavors are decidedly on the darker side for Carmignano, yet the wine is very much medium in body. This is another super-classy wine from Piaggia.
