Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2018-2035, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2015

Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Echézeaux Vieilles Vignes from Domaine Jean Tardy has a lovely, very pure and terroir expressive bouquet with precise strawberry and pit cherry scents, beautifully interwoven oak and a drop of iodine developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin, very well judged acidity, an Echézeaux that just seems happy in its own skin - natural, refined and just delicious to drink now and over the next 10-15 years, possibly longer. Chapeau!

The 2012 Echezeaux Grand Cru felt a little reduced on the nose, but everything is looking promising on the palate, suggesting even more concentration than it showed in November. That saline finish remains intact, as does the splendid delineation and purity on the finish. Excellent, but it will need at least 4-5 years in bottle. Drink 2018-2030. It was a pleasure to meet Guillaume Tardy again in Clos de Vougeot. He had two or three wines to show me that were bottled about six weeks previously, all of them confirming my bon mots out of barrel. Importer: Becky Wasserman Selection (Le Serbet) and through various US importers (see www.leserbet.com for full list).

Lightish cherry red. Less immediate appeal than the Gevrey-Chambertin Champerrier but the aroma suggests greater depth. Sweet-fruited, lively on the palate, with very fine tannins giving a moderate grip on the finish. On the savoury side; needs time. (JH)
