The 2006 Brut Rosé Cuvée 1522 Premier Cru comes across as powerful, burly and a bit rough around the edges. Blood orange, cherry pit, smoke and game notes abound. Vinous and deep, the 2006 offers good intensity, but less in the way of true finesse. It will be interesting to see if that develops with more time in bottle. Dosage is 4.5 grams/liter. Disgorged: May 2015.

Light, bright orange. Sexy, expansive aromas of fresh red berries and citrus fruits, with a suave floral element adding complexity. Stains the palate with sappy raspberry and blood orange flavors that become fleshier and weightier with aeration. The floral quality echoes on a finish that shows outstanding focus, cut and mineral-driven persistence. Disgorged in April, 2014.
Another utterly compelling Champagne, the 2006 Extra Brut Rosé 1522 is striking. A precise, beautifully perfumed wine, the 2006 is totally vivid in the glass. Pomegranate, raspberries and freshly cut roses all take shape in the glass. Far from an easygoing Rosé, the 2006 has tons of underlying chalkiness to give the wine its sense of energy and pure brilliance. The components are Pinot from Aÿ, Chardonnay from Oger and still red Pinot from Mareuil. This is another terrific showing from Philipponnat.
