Punteggio 89+/100 · Da bere 2021-2028, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2016

Good medium red. Deep aromas of redcurrant, plum and spicy underbrush. Fat and sweet on entry, then turns quite muscular on the back half, showing serious, slightly dry-edged, rising tannins and a saline element. Finishes with lovely lingering perfume but this premier cru will need time to outgrow its youthful toughness.

Bright medium red. Delicate perfumed aromas of red berries, black cherry, smoke and rose petal accented by blood orange. A sappy fruit bomb in the mouth, with supple, sweet flavors of cranberry and pomegranate showing terrific intensity but also more give than the Chambolle Les Gruenchers. This captivating wine will rely more on its vibrant acidity than on its tannins for longevity.

The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes does not quite possess the same fruit intensity on the nose as the other premier crus at this tage. This feels a little more conservative and straightlaced. The palate is sweet on the entry, fleshy and much more generous than the nose suggests, with a crisp thread of acidity and a caressing, sensual texture on the finish. Very fine.

Close to Clos de Bèze. Pale crimson. Not that expressive on the nose. You have to really concentrate to get the rich cherry fruit. Full and intense with real savour on the end. Not too much oak. Very firm and long term but with a twist of sweet fruit before the quite dry finish. (JR)
