Punteggio 84/100 · Da bere 2024-2026, Neal Martin, Mar 2024

The 2014 La Louvière has a rustic and unappealing bouquet with ferrous notes. The palate feels soft and lacks backbone. Some herbaceousness toward the finish is rather distasteful. This appears to have deteriorated in recent years. Dropped catch here. Tasted non-blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

Punteggio 86/100 · Da bere 2019-2032, Neal Martin, Mar 2018

The 2014 La Louvière is a wine that has been very inconsistent. Here, it has a pretty, elegant bouquet with vivid red berry fruit – cranberry and crushed strawberry, all well defined and vivacious. So far, so good. The palate is medium-bodied with firm and grainy tannin, cedar-laced red fruit and harmonious. It is just marred by a vein of under-ripeness towards the finish that lingers in the mouth after the wine has departed. This is just a bit raw. I feel this is a potential good wine spoiled by a vat or two of fruit that should have been declassified. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Tasted blind. Dark crimson. Scented with some floral sweetness but a bit austere and fruitless on the palate. Decidedly sour on the finish. (JR)

Green and sleek on the nose. Racy aperitif style with massive acidity and polish. Already charming. Lots of green vegy notes. (JR)

Wine has been made at this estate since the 1300s, but its modern history begins when the Lurton family purchased it in 1965. The property was in disrepair, but the Lurtons have restored the château, winery and vineyards.
