Punteggio 93/100 · Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Aug 2016

The 2009 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico boasts serious power and depth. Mocha, chocolate, blackberry jam and graphite all flesh out in a powerful, full-bodied wine endowed with serious depth. This is an especially opulent, full-bodied vintage for Allegrini's Amarone. I am not sure how the 2009 will age, but it is fabulous right now. The super-ripe, racy style is best enjoyed at the dinner table. There is a lot to like here.

Beautiful aromas of blueberries, minerals and dried flowers. Medium to full body with super integrated tannins and a refined tannic structure. It’s refined and very pretty.

The 2009 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a beautiful, “international” rendition that shows the soft and supple side of Amarone with loads of ripe fruit sweetness. You don’t find the thorny notes of oxidation you sometimes get with Amarone. This expression opens with an inky, impenetrable appearance and shows lingering notes of exotic spice, smoked bacon, grilled herb and blackberry preserves. Drink 2015-2025. The Allegrini family is one of the strongest pillars supporting the centuries-old winemaking traditions of the Valpolicella and the veritable renaissance those traditions are experiencing today. Until recently, winemaker Franco Allegrini was the driving force at the estate, but today his lovely sister Marilisa has become the face of the brand. Thanks to her tireless, globe-trotting promotional efforts, I’d definitely put Marilisa on a list of the top five ambassadors of Valpolicella. Importer: Winebow, www.winebow.com
