Attractive sweet red fruit and discreet toasty oak aromas provide the introduction to this wine, then it’s quite sleek and fresh given its power. A little lean on the finish. Drink in 2019.

The 2014 Clauzet is fruity, open-knit and expressive, all qualities that make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years. This is a very pretty entry-level Saint-Estèphe. Ripe red cherry, plum, cedar and tobacco wrap around the hearty finish. A fabulous wine for the money. Tasted two times.
The 2014 Clauzet offers ripe raspberry and blueberry fruit on the nose, quite fruit-forward if not quite delivering the same delineation as its peers. The palate is well balanced with crisp tannin, a little chalky in texture, with a citric vein infusing the raspberry and blackberry finish. Moderate in length, this is a well-crafted Saint Estèphe. Tasted September 2016.
55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc. 14-18 months in barrel, 30-40% new. Very deep crimson. Ripe but perfectly fresh dark fruit, cassis and plum and just a touch cedary on the nose. Dry and elegant on the palate. Not particularly long but refined and refreshing, with a very slight herbal bitterness that adds to the freshness rather than being aggressive. (JH)
