Full red. Aromas of medicinal black cherry, licorice and menthol are quite reticent compared to those of the Charmes. Suave and penetrating on the palate, displaying enticing violet lift to the pure aromas of black fruits and game. Firm tannins and strong acidity clamp down on the chiseled, energetic, very long finish, which offers a refined hint of black pepper Juicy, savory Chambertin with nothing hard about it.

Deep, bright red-ruby. Enticing ripe aromas of small wild red and black fruits, flowers, licorice and wild herbs. Dense, supple and dry, showing attractive early balance and an surprisingly pliant quality to its crunchy fruit, mineral, menthol and floral flavors. In a distinctly elegant, refined style, finishing with serious but silky tannins and excellent length.
The 2013 Chambertin, which comes from the 65-year-old vines only, has a perfumed, more floral bouquet than the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru. The palate is medium-bodied with quite sinewy tannins with blackcurrant pastilles, a touch of sea salt and a twist of cracked black pepper on the structured, quite masculine finish. Give this several years in bottle.
