The 2014 Clos les Lunelles had a very backward and "grumpy" bouquet that demanded coaxing from the glass. It feels very serious, especially compared to the d'Aiguilhe alongside. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, quite tannic with a firm backbone, good acidity but the density on the finish feels oppressive at the moment. Hopefully it will manifest more fleshiness to counter those tannins with bottle age.

The 2014 Clos Lunelles has come along nicely over the last two years. Aromatic, nuanced and medium in body, the 2014 nicely captures the fresh, focused style of the vintage. Dark red and purplish stone fruit, lavender and sweet spices add aromatic top notes in this expressive Merlot-based wine. The slightly burly tannins the 2014 showed in its youth remain.
19 hl/ha. 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Extremely deep crimson. Surely sweeter and more opulent than most Castillons. Almost soupy. Polished tannins but then greenish and drying on the end. I don’t understand why they don’t build more flesh on the finish. (JR)
