2014 Beausejour Duffau-Lagarosse

Note di degustazione
The 2014 Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse feels advanced on the nose, not in a negative way, less minerally than four years ago, with scents of hickory and leather complementing the melted red fruit. One would think that it comes from a warmer season. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, slightly powdery in texture, and cooked meats filter through the savory red fruit. This Saint-Émilion has definitely moved on in recent years, hence my shortened drinking window. It remains pleasurable, yet is perhaps in decline as the second bottle tasted blind and came across more mean on the finish.

Tasted blind. Bricky rim, garnet core. Sweet senescent fruit and a light leafy note suggesting Cabernet Franc. A bit flat/dry in the middle so that the tannins, while mostly resolved, are a little dry on the finish. Fresh nonetheless. Some in the group thought there was a suggestion of oxidation. (JH)
The silky tannins pull you in, and at 10 years old this continues to deliver a punch of blueberry and raspberry fruit. The touches of saffran and cigar box show it is softening up, with everything beginning to melt together as it gets ready to move into its full drinking window, rounded off with orange peel, the slate lift of limestone, and the fingerprint of smoky oak. Good stuff, and will continue to age with plenty of elegance from here on in. Nicolas Thienpont and Stéphane Derenoncourt consultant winemakers, 39hl/h yield.
