Punteggio 96/100 · Da bere 2016-2030, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2015

Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru from Pierre Duroché has an attractive nose, the fruit a little darker than its peers: blackcurrant, raspberry and black plum mixed with damp earth and wilted violet petals. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, good acidity, a gentle build in the mouth towards a precise but quite muscular, structure finish. This is a long-term proposition, a grand cru that is surfeit with energy and sheer irresistible drinkability. Just wonderful.

The 2012 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru from this up and coming producer sports very good intensity on the nose with ravishing and quite floral, dark berry fruit tinged nose with iodine and violet. Modern in style perhaps, but this is very seductive. The palate is medium-bodied and tight at the moment, although it opens nicely and demonstrates crisp acidity and a fairly robust, quite grippy finish. I would give this grand cru another 2 or 3 years, but on this showing this is certainly a producer I will investigate further in the future.

More spicy and meaty than the Lavaux-St-Jacques. But equally refined and silky. Mouthwateringly fresh and harmonious. (JH)

Round, textured and polished to the core, the 2012 Charmes-Chambertin is quite attractive today. The flavors posses good mid-palate pliancy and depth, all in the medium-bodied style that marks the vintage here. Sweet red cherries, mint and licorice add complexity on the finish.
