Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2022-2035, Neal Martin, Oct 2023

The 2013 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has a pronounced, minty bouquet with plenty of fruit. However, it lacks the bandwidth of a truly great Musigny from de Vogüé. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, briny with black olives infusing the black fruits, linear and structured toward the finish. Fine, but very serious. Like an old schoolmate who you've never heard crack a joke.

Served blind, the 2013 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru from Comte de Vogüé wore its pedigree on its sleeve, opening in the glass with a superb bouquet of wild strawberries, rose, cherry, blood orange and plum—much like it did in barrel. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and layered, with succulent acids, a deep mid-palate and a sapid, mineral-laden finish. Pure and transparent, this is a beautifully elegant Musigny that should be comparatively approachable in another 5 or 6 years.

I bowed to this bottle. Very deep ruby. Lovely savour. Bones and richness on the end with dry finish. Much, much more grown-up than the Iona. Precise and fresh. Really expressive and gorgeous. Long and stunning now. Bone-dry end. (JR)
