Deep, dark, saturated crimson. Creamy, open and spicy dark fruit. A touch of vanilla. Then tighter and fresher than I expected on the palate. Deep fruit and freshness, with a fine spicy grip from the tannins, which are resolved but so dry (in a good way) that they increase the freshness. (JH)

The 2009 Blaufränkisch Lutzmannsburg Alte Reben has a dark and intense ruby color and offers an intense, superripe and sweet, slightly nutty and oxidative bouquet with some hot Port aromas. Fascinating for fans of big and superripe wines, though probably not the favorite wine of Moric fans, who prefer a more coolish, fresh and straight style. However, this wine is everything but fat or clunky, it is simply rich and ripe, but also reveals a mineral lemon-freshness and typical limestone aromas. Rich and round on the palate, powerful and vibrant, silky textured, this is a somewhat bizarre wine in the Moric context because it has the richness and power he is not looking for, but the freshness and purity he always has in ripe vintages like 2009. Salty, fresh and very long, with firm tannins and a big structure.
