Medium red. Reticent but pure aromas of redcurrant, earth, dried flowers, tobacco and smoked meat. Concentrated, savory and firmly built; noteworthy energy gives this very young wine a distinctly sappy character. Finishes fine-grained, dry and long, with the extract to support its ripe tannins. This will go truffley and earthy with six or seven years in the bottle.

Cask sample. Dark, peppery fruit on the nose. Promising. Hint of vanilla. Much the best of the Faiveley wines in this tasting but there is a hint of that cardboard flavour at a much lower level. Tannins are fine and dry, the oak in balance with the dark peppery fruit. (JH)
(aged in two-thirds new oak; this was 11.8% potential alcohol chaptalized to 12.8%): Medium red. Musky aromas of red fruits and animal fur. Sharply focused and pure if tightly coiled, showing terrific cut to its intense red berry flavors. A wine of moderate volume but terrific sappy digestibility. This youthfully taut, rather cool Echézeaux (I might have picked it blind as coming from Chambolle-Musigny) will need considerable time in bottle to unwind.
