From Cusumano's Tenuta San Giacomo property, the 2012 Sicilia Sàgana is a pure expression of Nero d'Avola that opens to a dark appearance and concentrated color. The wine is masculine and dense with thick layers of cherry, blackberry preserves, spice, leather and tobacco. The fruit has reached an optimal level of ripeness and those greenish or herbal notes you sometimes get from Nero d'Avola are completely absent. This gives the wine a classic style and approachable appeal. Starting with the 2012 vintage, Sàgana is a Sicilia DOC wine.

100% Nero d’Avola. Cask sample. Impenetrable, almost black ruby. Rich nose of sweet, almost jammy dark fruit and vanilla pod. Much better Nero d’Avola definition on the palate with marasca cherry and hint of blood orange. The fruit has class, but it doesn’t need any more oak, as it already begins to dominate the finish.
