Punteggio 87/100 · Da bere 2018-2035, Neal Martin, May 2019

The 2011 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has quite a high-toned bouquet, a little feisty compared to recent vintages and maybe with a slight touch of brettanomyces? The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, gamey red fruit with a touch of brown spice and garrigues towards the finish that just needs a little more structure and freshness. Tasted at Flint Wines Burgundy 2011 tasting.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. Lucid ruby color, the Clos Vougeot ‘11 has a rather two-dimensional bouquet, quite earthy and needing more fruit -- a “flightless” bouquet. The palate is rather austere and masculine and I would have preferred more flesh towards the finish. I was initially quite severe with this wine, although it does improve in the glass, gaining some cohesion and vigor. Having said that, I still feel that this is not one of the domaine’s strongest efforts this year.

A little deeper ruby than most. Creamy, almost buttery nose. Lots of red fruit flavours and then poised acidity and good balance on the finish. Appetising grainy nose. Good combination of fruit and acidity. Great pace to this wine. Long. Spicy. (JR)

Bold, modern oak, lots of slick red fruit. Very rounded and polished – not without structure though, there is furry tannin on the finish. Grainy. (RH)
