The 2013 Monbousquet Blanc has an attractive bouquet with hints of fresh pear, grapefruit and almond aromas that unfurl nicely in the glass. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, citrus lemon, grapefruit and, again, fresh pear notes with a slightly brittle but sustained finish. This has improved since I tasted it in barrel and should provide several years of drinking pleasure.

This creative blend of two-thirds Sauvignon Blanc and one-third Sauvignon Gris is always one of the better dry whites of Bordeaux. Sadly, only about 400 cases are produced. Gerard Perse believes the 2013 Monbousquet is the finest he has ever made. Malolactic fermentation is blocked, resulting in a wine with lots of honeysuckle, exotic tropical fruits (mango and guava), superb texture, medium to full body, good acidity and terrific purity as well as palate presence. Consume it over the next 3-4 years.
