Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2017-2032, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2015

Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers from Armand Rousseau has a very backward, slightly stemmy nose with touches of Earl Grey infusing the red berry fruit, nicely defined but like Christian Serafin's, it is unapologetically understated at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, nicely judged acidity with a gentle grip and fine structure towards the finish. There is a completeness and harmony to this wine that is very engaging however, it degrades a little in the glass and loses some definition with aeration and consequently ended up knocking a couple of points off of my initial score.

(these vines average more than 50 years of age): Bright medium red. Wild small red berries, gibier and a whiff of underbrush on the sexy nose. Concentrated and sappy, with lovely purity and energy to the chewy flavors of red cherry and saline minerality. This tight, juicy, firmly tannic wine is in a rather masculine, 2010-like style for the vintage. But that's no complaint!

A rich, dark expression of fruit emerges from the 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers. Plums, black cherries, menthol and cloves inform a rich, explosive wine endowed with lovely depth and pliancy. A burst of blue/blackish fruit saturates the palate on the finish. Even with all of the intensity, there is plenty of underlying structure to ensure years of fine drinking.
