Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2022-2030, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Sep 2021

Touches of cinammon spice on the nose, this has been deftly handled, giving a wine with an emphasis on spice - white pepper, sage - and gentle raspberry and redcurrant notes, along with an oyster shell tang. Definitely ready to drink but not yet flagging. 40% new oak harvest October 1 to 16.

Tasted blind. Mid crimson. Very ripe dark fruit, almost blackcurrant jujube. But leafy too – smells like Chilean Carmenère. Powerful, chunky. Extreme but flavourful. Not very bordeaux. And then a bit green on the end. (JH)

The 2013 LaTour Martillac has a crisp, blackberry and wild hedgerow bouquet that feels a little rustic, but there is freshness here. The palate is medium-bodied with stringy tannin, moderate acidity, quite saline, almost seaweed-like in the mouth with an attenuated but focused finish. It represents a respectable wine for the vintage that might actually repay bottle age.

Green, fresh and tight but without the density and vitality of the Clos Floridène 2010 served with it. But it certainly won't fall over in a hurry. (JR)
