Punteggio 95/100 · Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2021

The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon is a dark, brooding wine. Black cherry, mocha, leather, licorice, spice, earthiness and tobacco build in a somber mountain Cabernet endowed with tons of energy and virile intensity. I suspect the tannins will always be a bit burly, but readers can look forward to another decade of rewarding drinking. (AG)

Punteggio 86/100 · Robert Parker, May 2011

Having tasted and purchased the legendary Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignons made between 1968 and 1976, I remember them as massively concentrated, monster, tannic bombs when young. While some suggest that nothing has changed, a vertical tasting done a number of years ago showed a much lighter, less dense style starting in the late 1970s. That style continues with the 2001. This dark ruby/purple-tinged offering reveals a hint of minerality, but the wine is narrowly constructed, exhibiting notions of blue and black fruits that have nowhere near the power, density or depth of the wines made between 1968-1976. One could euphemistically call it elegant and finesse-styled, but that would be disingenuous as it is really lacking concentration and density. Tel. (707) 224-4030; Fax (707) 224-3979
