Punteggio 88-89/100 · Da bere 2014-2020, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2014

The 2012 Bourgogne is wonderfully supple, radiant and expressive. Dark red cherry, plum and spice notes are all fused together in a gorgeous Burgundy that captures the essence of the Dugat house style and the pure texture that is the signature of these wines.

The 2012 Bourgogne Rouge, which comes from three parcels, mainly “Les Genevrieres” and is raised in used oak, has a light but pointed bouquet with tart red cherry fruit with a dash of fresh strawberry. The palate is nicely balanced with nicely judged acidity and a tart cherry finish. Fine. Six months after tasting his 2011s, I return to Claude Dugat to taste through his 2012s that he mentioned would soon be bottled. There was no point in retreading over the travails of the growing season. Claude said that he commenced the harvest on 17 or 18 September (he could not remember exactly which) and chaptalized the wines up to about half a degree. This was a splendid array of wines. Occasionally I feel that there could be a preponderance of new oak that can submerge the terroir, but in 2012 I discerned the oak to be beautifully assimilated and indeed, this was one of the finest set of wines I have tasted at the domaine since I first visited to sample Claude’s 2005s. A perfumed and agreeably fruity nose of primarily red berry fruit aromas leads to lightly earthy middle weight flavors that possess only average complexity but I do like the clean, pure and balanced finish. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2015+
