Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2020-2026, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2015

(no new oak): Bright medium red. Slightly muted aromas of red berries, spices and caramel. Then supple and silky on the palate, with sound acidity giving shape to the red berry and spice flavors. Here the firm tannins come off as more masculine than those of the Vosne, which benefits from the sweetening influence of a bit of new oak.

Good full red. Medicinal black cherry, leather and spices on the nose. Juicy, spicy and supple, showing a positive rusticity to its cherry and leather flavors. Nicely concentrated village wine with tannins well-supported by sweet fruit. The crop level here was infinitesimal, noted Forey, who had to pull up some older vines that had been hard-hit by frost.

The 2012 Nuits-Saint-Georges is wonderfully lifted in this vintage. Sweet tobacco, crushed flowers, dark red fruit and menthol all waft from the glass. Tense, vibrant and impeccable in its balance, the 2012 is a standout in its peer group. Most importantly of all, though, the 2012 is delicious. The Nuits is a blend of three parcels in Premeaux-Prissey.

A brooding and almost mute nose only grudgingly gives up notes of dark berry fruit, earth and game nuances. There is a markedly different texture to the middle weight flavors as here there is evident rusticity on the balanced and delicious finale. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2018+
