Note di degustazione
The 2006 Sauvignon Selezione shows why this variety is so at home in the Carso. Bright saline notes support the crystalline fruit in and intensely mineral, focused wine that captivates all of the senses with its fabulous class and complex, multi-dimensional personality. Crushed rocks, sweet floral notes and orchard fruit are woven into the haunting, mind-bending finish. Today, the 2006 is firing on all cylinders. It is without question one of the greatest wines I have ever tasted from Friuli, maybe the greatest. Readers who can find the 2006 should not hesitate. It is simply magnificent. Simply put, this is world-class Sauvignon Blanc.

The 2006 Sauvignon Riserva is off the charts. It boasts striking aromatic intensity, layers of varietal fruit and a weightless, silky personality that is hard to capture with words. The long, saline finish gives me every reason to think the 2006 will age along the lines of the best previous vintages. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2021. What can I say about the wines I tasted at Kante? Words are pretty superfluous when confronted with this stunning overall level of quality. Edi Kante’s wines are at once intensely varietal yet also imbued with the deepest sense of the Carso, the rocky, hillside stretch of mountains where these vineyards lie. Think of Kante as Italy’s Coche-Dury. Importer: Domaine Select, New York, NY; tel. (212) 279-0799
Kante has a special feel for Sauvignon, and it shows in the 2006 Sauvignon. The aromatics are wonderfully detailed and meld seamlessly into a palate of peaches, mint, flowers and tomato leaf. The wine literally sparkles with a level of vibrancy and pure energy that is hard to define. It should continue to develop nicely in bottle.

Kante makes some of the most distinctive wines in Friuli from his vineyards in the Carso district. The wines can be quite inward at first, but they tend to open up nicely with air.
