Still drinking well, the bricking 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape le Grand Pin shows notes of roasted meat, pine sap and dried cherries. Full-bodied, round and supremely silky in feel, this is deliciously mature and textural, with a delightful bit of licorice on the lengthy finish. Drink up over the next few years.

Brilliant ruby. Fresh red berries, allspice and lavender on the nose, with smoky mineral and sandalwood nuances adding complexity. Offers intense black raspberry and floral pastille flavors and a zesty kick of blood orange on the back half. Racy and pure, with strong finishing thrust and silky, slow-building tannins. Smoothly combines power and finesse and shows very well now with an hour or so of aeration. This wine is made entirely from grenache.
Vivid ruby-red. A perfume of raspberry and fresh flowers is complicated by hints of incense and Asian spices. Bright, linear and subtly sweet on the palate, displaying intense red and dark berry flavors and a sexy touch of candied lavender. Graceful and seamless, with no excess fat and excellent finishing clarity and cut.
Lighter in color and lacking the concentration and depth of the 2010, the 2011 Chapelle St. Theodoric Châteauneuf-du-Pape le Grand Pin nevertheless offers a perfumed, complex profile (kirsch, pepper, stems), medium+ body, moderate concentration, and fine tannin that comes through on the finish. Leaning heavily towards the finesse side of the spectrum, this still has a firm core and solid focus on the palate, and as with the La Guigasse, it should have a decade or so of prime drinking.
