The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d’Orveaux comes across as quite lush and powerful. This is one of the few 2009s here that speaks more to the year than it does to the vineyard. Readers who appreciate the ripe, seductive side of Burgundy will love the Combe d’Orveaux. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. I was deeply impressed with Christophe Perrot-Minot’s 2009s. The wines are rich and powerful in the Perrot-Minot style, yet also shine with tons of energy. New oak was 20% for the village level wines, 30% for the premier crus and 30-50% for the grand crus, topping out at 50% for the Chambertin. Importer: Martine’s Wines. Novato, CA; tel. (415) 883-040

Ruby-red. Black fruits, licorice and menthol on the nose. Dense, fat and pliant but at the same time juicy, with sound acidity and a strong mineral element perking up the black fruit flavors. Not quite as concentrated as the Beaux-Monts, but this is also a baby today. Finishes with building tannins.
