Punteggio 85/100 · Da bere 2023-2026, Neal Martin, Aug 2023

The 2013 La Dame de Montrose lacks some fruit on the nose - rather innocuous. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dry tannins, peppery, yet it tapers away and "drifts" on the finish. Tasted at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year On tasting.

Underwhelming for such a sterling 2nd wine, and one that is known to do well in challenging years. You will find the memory of blackcherry fruits, and it retains fine tannins, and an upward kick of acidity and freshness, but is very much in its drinking window, and those tobacco and undergrowth notes are only going one way.

The 2013 La Dame de Montrose has a light, fleshy strawberry and Morello-scented nose thanks to the high percentage of Merlot (69%). The palate is nicely balanced, perhaps "skinny" in the context of other vintages, but the acidity imparts decent tension and there is a dash of spice on the aftertaste that livens things up. Don't expect too much and you'll be able to enjoy this over the next 5 or 6 years.

69% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc. Pure cassis and cedar – very classic, very correct. Manages to conjure plenty of body as well – really satisfying and complete. Modest length. Very traditional, yet with modern drinkability. (RH)
