Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2023-2030, Neal Martin, Aug 2023

The 2013 Petit Village comes from my own cellar and is tasted to compare it with its peers. It acquits itself much better than expected. Slightly smudged, loamy and cigar box scents unfurl on the nose, and over 90 minutes, seem to gain fruit intensity. The palate could never be described as "complex", yet it is balanced with no signs of greenness. It fades a little on the finish, but otherwise, I have no problems with this in the context of the growing season.

Tasted blind. Mid garnet. Mocha and leafy cassis. Lively, juicy and only slightly dry on the palate. Another more drinkable wine but acid sticks out on the finish a little. (JH)

The 2013 Petit Village has an uncomplicated bouquet with blackberry, cedar and iodine scents, quite floral in style with a hint of wilted violet petals. The palate is medium-bodied with a saline entry, crisp and quite firm tannin, a little compact towards the finish, but nicely focused. This is a decent, short-term Pomerol from the AXA-Millésime group, though it has no ambitions towards longevity.

Mid cherry. Really savoury and dark in aroma. Stony dark fruit. Chewy and sweet on the palate, the sweetness perhaps more from the oak/chocolate note than from the fruit. Firm, dry tannins dominating the fruit on the mid palate. Hard work after the promise of the aroma. (JH)
