Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2024-2039, Jeb Dunnuck, Apr 2024

One heck of an impressive Saint-Emilion, the 2005 Château Destieux stopped me in my tracks and offers a gorgeous perfume of rich currants, chocolate, smoked tobacco, and leafy, truffly, floral like nuances. It shows the more dense, concentrated style of the vintage yet it stays perfectly balanced and light on its feet, with full-bodied richness, polished tannins, and a great, great finish. I followed this bottle for multiple days, and it was even better on day two. If you get a chance, don’t miss it! It should continue drinking beautifully for another 10-15 years.

Deep dark damson, fully on brand, this is signature Destieux, delivering its oak-driven message, rammed home with super ripe damson and black cherry fruit. Doing exactly what is supposed to do, still deliveirng at 17 years old. A good examle of the vintage within its own style, 100% new oak, from Vignobles Dauriac.

A well-known and consistent wine from the estate of Christian Dauriac, this big, plump, opulent 2005 is one of the best wines I have ever tasted from this estate. It is full-bodied and multi-dimensional, with a big, juicy texture and loads of plum, blackcurrant, spicy oak and minerality. Full and rich, with the tannins just beginning to show some resolution and better integration, this is a big-time sleeper of the vintage that should drink well for another 15-20 years.
