Bright ruby-red. Wonderfully precise black cherry, violet and bitter chocolate aromas, lifted by stony minerality. Suave, penetrating and gripping, with extremely primary aromas of black fruits, menthol and exotic spices. This has gone into the bottle with a tightly coiled spring, which is Job #1 for Burgundy. Finishes with superb length and tensile strength.

The 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru explodes from the glass with sweet red cherries and roses. Gorgeous red fruits can be found throughout its satin-textured, medium-bodied, sappy personality. Bright ruby-red. Sappy, bright aromas of cherry, raspberry and licorice show a trace of reduction. Sweet and lush but shapely; fleshy and densely packed. A bit less obviously showy today than the village sample as this is tighter and less evolved. Slow-mounting, very long finish features smooth tannins.
There is more of everything here with rich, precise and pure red fruit aromas that display plenty of Gevrey earth. The medium-sized flavors are powerful, yet elegant and there is a very pretty underlying note of minerality on the long finish. This is first-rate. Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan, 2004
