2009 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru

(made from young vines in Le Chambertin) Medium red. Very expressive aromas of redcurrant, licorice and smoked meat, lifted by an enticing spicy perfume. Then lush, sweet and seamless on the palate; tender rather than deep, with a roundness to its flavors of wild red fruits and smoke. Can't match the top 2009s here for finesse or finishing sweetness, but this tender wine should give early pleasure.
