Tasted blind. Fresh and sappy on the nose. Very vital and positive. Some lip-smacking quality though the fruit is slightly lacking juice. Just a little stringy. (JR)

The 2012 Rauzan Gassies is somewhat tannic, austere and rustic, but dense ruby/purple, yet possesses some serious concentration and body. The angularity and astringency of the tannins are a distraction, raising doubts about whether this wine will ever fully come together. However, it has plenty of up-side potential and will keep and evolve over a 15- to 20-year period.
Dark cherry red. Fragrantly leafy with an attractive meaty note. Firm, dry tannins with a light vanilla sweetness in the middle. A bit tough on the finish, for now at least. (JH)
Modestly proportioned but nicely balanced. Very neat and non showy. Appetising. Quite forward. Very deeply flavoured with a long finish. (JR)

The Quié family purchased Pauillac Fifth Growth Ch. Croizet-Bages in 1942, adding Rauzan-Gassies four years later. Once part of the same estate as the neighbouring Rauzan-Ségla, this Margaux property was split off in time for the 1855 Classification, earning Second Growth status.
