Dark glowing crimson. Savoury, appetising and sleek on the nose. Very seductive and silky with beautifully ripe, seamless fruit and well judged tannins underneath. Sufficient though by no means excessive acidity. Very smart. (JR)

Never one of my favorite wines, the 2010 De France is showing well. Deep plum/purple, with abundant spicy oak and notes of lead pencil shavings, this medium-bodied wine is richer than usual, with a bigger framework and more density. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.
Leafy, graphite aroma and quite leafy on the palate, but the texture is surprisingly soft and chocolate-like even though the tannins are deep and thick. Overall effect is a bit flat. (JH)
Pale green straw. Some oak influence and lots of flattering attraction. Very firm and with great structure and succulence. Smoky and great subtlety and oak handling. This is the sort of wine many New World producers try to emulate… Quite long. Very strong citrus character. (JR)

Neighbouring Ch. de Fieuzal, Ch. de France has been making wine since the 17th century. Purchased by the Thomassin family in 1971, investment has been significant – as has the associated rise in quality.
