The 2000 Nenin is a vintage that I last tasted three years ago. It’s very similar now, those traits of violet and camphor still infusing the red fruit and a touch of iron rust and truffle emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and peppery, with a rustic opening and coarse tannins. An unapologetically old-school Pomerol through and through.

The 2000 Nénin has a feisty bouquet, much more exuberant than the 1998 Nénin, with small red cherries, camphor and crushed violets. The palate is medium-bodied with more flesh and depth than the 1998. There is good backbone to this Pomerol, fresh in the mouth, not complex per se but with a lovely pepperiness surfacing towards the finish. There is still a little residual rusticity from the old Despujol regime, but this stocky Pomerol is still giving plenty of pleasure. Tasted at the château.
Full-bodied and powerful, but still tannic, structured, and backward, the 2000 Nenin possesses a dark ruby/plum color as well as a sweet nose of boysenberries, earth, flowers, and truffles. It requires another 4-5 years of bottle age, and should keep for 20 years thereafter.
