The 2009 Haut-Condissas was the first vintage to include 15-hectares that now forms the foundation of this wine. Typical of the vintage it has an extrovert, powerful, almost ravishing bouquet with layers of blackberry, dark cherry and blueberry fruit that burst from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with quite grainy tannin, perhaps compared to the lavish aromatics, more structured and less sumptuous than anticipated. This is a muscular Haut-Condissas, assertive and long, yet I would like more elegance and sophistication, more detail perhaps on the finish. Tasted at the Haut-Condissas vertical at the property.

A big-time sleeper of the vintage, this inky purple wine has a beautiful nose of creme de cassis, incense and acacia flowers. Some subtle barbecue smoke is also present in this full-bodied wine, which is the best of all the Jean Guyon estates in 2009. For the statisticians out there, it is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot. Drink it over the next decade.
Dark purple. Rich nose with notes of yeast extract. Sweet and supple. Very easy and luscious and complete with a bit of polish. Lots of oak but enough fruit to last, I think. GV (JR)
