Punteggio 94+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2012

Good bright, full red. Lightly liqueur-like redcurrant and raspberry aromas lifted by menthol and smoky minerality. Sweet and silky on entry, then wonderfully dense and fresh in the middle, with a magically light touch to the flavors of medicinal red cherry, minerals and spices. Showing much less torrefaction than the preceding samples. Finishes sweet and impressively long, with serious but supple tannins. Already boasts a seductive mouth feel but this beauty should be laid down.

Full ruby-red. Wild, fully ripe nose combines black raspberry, black cherry, mocha, smoked meat and underbrush. Enters the mouth silky and fine, then immediately expands to saturate every square millimeter of the palate with lush, vibrant, soil-driven flavors of dark fruits and wild spices. The subtle, rising, endless finish is like a jolt of adrenaline to the taste buds (but a lot less painful than that sounds).

Dark crimson. Deep and interesting with lots of round fruit – seem to have used those stems well for adding freshness though this has just a slightly tarty chocolate note on the finish. Pretty lip smacking but not stunningly pure. By Chambolle, above the de Vogüé vines. (JR)
