Full deep red. Pungent aromas of cherry, raspberry, minerals and dark chocolate, complicated by animal, vegetal and mineral nuances. Juicy, vibrant and solidly built, with a restrained sweetness. Reticent and fine. The building tannins spread out to coat the entire palate. Like the Clos de la Roche this is very backward and likely to merit an even higher score with seven or eight years of additional aging.
Fresh herbs and spices can be found in the aromas of the 1999 Bonnes Mares. This wine is the brawniest of Dujac's 1999s, revealing a medium to full-bodied character packed with super-ripe cherries, cassis, and blackberries. It is concentrated, deep, and admirably harmonious. In addition, this wine possesses an exceptionally long, pure, and delineated finish. Importer: Wilson-Daniels, St. Helena, CA; tel. (707) 963-9661.
