Deep, bright red. Very ripe aromas of blueberry and sweet oak. Creamy and easygoing, showing a fine-grained structure, restrained sweetness and obvious oakiness. This doesn't have quite the energy of the 2012 version. Not bad but the tannins are a tad dry.

Big and bold and dry on the end. Tastes as though there were long extractions here. I'm not totally convinced. Bitter finish. (JR)
(racked and sulfited): Bright red. Subtle but pure aromas of cherry, leather and menthol. Juicy, tight and imploded, offering lively black cherry and licorice flavors. Finishes with good length, slightly tough tannins and hints of licorice and mint. Tricky to taste today as this cuvee is located in a cold spot in the cellar.
This is also exceptionally fresh though much more restrained with a beautifully well-layered nose of red berry fruit, earth and a hint of spice. There is a wonderfully seductive character to the rich and velvety middle weight flavors that manage to retain a fine sense of precision on the mouth coating and vibrant finish. This should mature gracefully and require the better part of a decade to be at its best. Tasted: Jan 14, 2013. Drink: 2018+
