A rich, expansive Champagne, the 2005 Vintage is wonderfully expressive today. Succulent peach, orchard fruit, candied lemon, almonds, ginger and sage are nicely delineated. I don't see the 2005 being a long-term ager, but it is super-expressive today, with gorgeous resonance and an appealing open-knit personality that will provide plenty of drinking pleasure for at least the next handful of years.

Bright yellow-gold. Deeply pitched aromas of lemon pith, dried pear, honeysuckle and smoky minerals, with a gingery element adding lift. Sappy, smooth and expansive on the palate, offering bitter citrus and pear skin flavors given spine by juicy acidity. Finishes very long, on a smoky, leesy note, with lingering minerality. (LB05-240713): Light gold. Incisive citrus fruit and floral scents are complicated by iodine, sea salt and chalky minerals. Dry and penetrating, offering concentrated orange and quince flavors and notes of tarragon and salty minerals. Picks up smokiness and spiciness with air and finishes very long, with lingering brioche and mineral qualities.
